Paula White’s Desperate Moment October 12, 2007

Televangelist Paula White was a recent guest on my radio program in Detroit. She and her husband of 18 years, Randy White, announced in August that they would be divorcing and yet continuing their respective ministries: Randy as Senior Pastor of Church Without Walls in Tampa, Florida and Paula as an itinerant evangelist and “Life Coach.”

For most of the 30 minutes we talked I challenged her on her theology, as revealed in her latest book “You’re All That!,” as well as her divorce. I asked her to justify statements made by members of her church that her divorce would have no impact whatsoever on its ministry. How is that possible, I asked? How is it possible that two high profile ministers could conclude that their own relationship was so damaged that divorce was the only solution, and yet believe themselves spiritually fit to continue their ministries? She had no concrete answers, and so she concluded our 30 minute conversation this way:

“And while we’re talking about painful, difficult situations, with all due respect, I understand “let’s get the elephant out of the room,” we’ve taken 30 minutes on divorce. But I don’t understand why not an interviewer or a believer as yourself has not asked me how my daughter, who has a death sentence, with third and fourth stage cancer, how she’s doing now.”

I sat stunned for a moment; stunned because I didn’t know, but more shocked that she would use a family tragedy to make me look like a terrible person simply because I challenged her theology and lifestyle.

What pray tell, does her daughter’s illness have to do with answering questions about her divorce and her humanistic theology? Is Paula White above criticism because she has a terminally ill daughter?

The larger question is: if her daughter’s illness is so serious as to warrant her not having to answer questions about her very public divorce and her very abberant theology, why is Paula White on an eight city book tour while her daughter lay dying? During our conversation she boarded a plane for Detroit for a book signing the next day.

The fact is, “her” daughter is not her daughter at all. “Her” daughter is actually her estranged husband Randy’s daughter from a previous marriage. “Her” daughter is an adult, not a child. She led me and my audience to believe that she had a young child at home dying of cancer. Paula White played the sympathy card when it became apparent she had lost the sympathy of the audience on the issues she was asked to address.

Paula White is a well managed image worth millions of dollars. Behind that image is a real person, a wounded and broken human being, who lives in fear of being exposed. Paula White revealed how broken she is when she used her dying daughter as a desperate cover to protect at all costs her well managed image. She needs our prayers as much as her daughter.

Paul

Thank you for not destroying her, as could be done with this interview in mind. Your graciousness exceeds your wisdom. Paula White IS broken and in need of the great Physician. The call for prayer on her behalf is the answer.
You stood way above the rest on this one!

2. Glenn - October 13, 2007

Forgive me for being so “unspiritual”, but Paula White is not a broken person. I know and minister to broken people. She is a charlatan and an opportunist. Using the suffering of others to score points in a debate is about the lowest thing a human being can do! She has none of my sympathy.

Does she need prayer? Absolutely. She needs prayer that she will repent and receive God’s forgiveness. She has taken advantage of tens of thousands of undiscerning people to enrich herself. As if that isn’t bad enough, she then has the temerity to attack Paul when it becomes apparent she has no other recourse to justify herself.

My hat’s off to Paul for being firm yet respectful.

3. K~ - October 14, 2007

I wasnt that shocked when she used her dieing daughter to make Paul look bad. That tactic is used commonly by the left, Cindy Sheehan for example and also the 9-11 widows Ann Coulter refers to in one of her books. They commonly play the card of you cant dare question my motives because of.. fill in the death or sick blank. There by attempting to smear someone for lack of sympathy. I think its just a matter of time before Paulas house of cards falls down. I didnt fall for her sympathy/smear tactic, but sadly some others do.

4. Jennifer - October 14, 2007

Wow. There are other people that see Paula White as a charlatan? In Detroit? I’m glad someone has tried to hold her accountable. For her sake she needs to be.

5. Wanda Ferguson - October 14, 2007

When anyone builds an empire of anykind with themselves at the top and the attention is all on and about them, it is bound to fall sooner or later. We have too many ministries, where the only one you see over and over on TV is the ‘top’ guy/gal. It almost seems they are running the mega churches and everything themselves when THEY are in the limelight constantly and others are rarely seen. To see a christian couple going their separate ways continually is dangerous. A wife should submit her ministry under her husband’s is the scriptural way because there is a line of authority and her husband should be the head. In some cases the woman is called to minister, travel, evangelize and she should IF her husband is in full agreement as Joyce Meyer’s husband is and travels with her shouldering the main responsibilities behind the scenes. They seem to be in complete agreement on it all. It is playing into the hands of Satan when each are doing their OWN thing so much. Very dangerous. And if they have no scriptural reason for divorce they are compounding the problem and should not continue in ministry,

6. FRED - October 15, 2007

AND THE CHURCH, WHERE IS THE CHURCH? DOCTRINE, WHERE IS THE DOCTRINE? WE ARE THINKING ABOUT THE THEOLOGY OF PROSPERYTY. THAT’S THE REASON THAT PEOPLE LIKE THIS CHARLATAN WOMAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE LIGHT CHRISTIANS.
WE NEED TO BE SORRY. GOD FORGIVE US. REALLY, WE NEED THAT GOD BLESS AMERICA.

7. Drew - October 15, 2007

Wow,, I wish Id got to hear that interview you had with paula. Sounds like you really called her out and thats what america needs. Somebody that pulls the sheep clothing off these people. Though it doesnt really shock Me that she lied about some daughter dying. She also lied to some girl about winning a house among other things than you can find on the net. And I think one thing is being overlooked by us christians, according to the word of God once you are divorced and remarried you no longer have a ministry. And a slew of these faith preachers have been divorced and remarried. But if they took the word of God as a whole, well then they couldnt rob the poor and make their money. Since the verse Im referring to doesnt talk about money I doubt that they have read it anyway. So maybe its not their fault huh? Pray for them? I suppose technically if we are going to be honest with the word of God, We should. I have some trouble doing that simply because these people use the word of an Almighty God, twist it just so they can rob the poor. To Me they are as bad as child molesters, they are just pure evil. And Id love to see all the little kingdoms they have built for theirselves fall. Course they are so good at begging that a street and a tin cup would probably bring them a BMW too. But I do believe the greater concern are the people that sit under them and still believe. Those are the ones to me that need our prayers, much more than these lying thieves do.

8. Don Sivyer - October 15, 2007

Glen,
Your analysis proves she is broken, however not credible. Charlatan, yes, broken, completely, as all lost or backslidden souls are.

9. lkitto - October 15, 2007

I have never heard the reason for their divorce so we can’t tell if it is scriptural or not. still just from what has been said, there is reason for doubt. This is a disgrace. Don’t these people realize how they may cause some to stumble - do they not care?

10. Florence Eboreime - London England - October 16, 2007

Everyone (including you Paul,) the bible says need to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. Let God be Paula’s judge. God has called her and I dont believe her ministry need to stop simply because she is divorced and I think her daughter who is ill with cancer need all of our prayers. She needs our prayers and so does Bishop Randy White. Let us ‘touch not the Lord’s anointed’ as His word says ‘do my prophets no harm.’ Paula is a woman of God. All the work she has done ( singly or with the Bishop) for humanity through their ministry is really being undermined by the fact that she is divorced. absurd!!! One thing is for sure she is REAL. Showing Paula in a bad light through this medium and your interview is not helping matters is it? It is so easy to see ourselves , our ways and behaviour through rose tinted lenses and see others through a magnifying glass. Brother Paul Judge not so you will not be judged. By the way I like your show you are really doing a great job and God will reward your efforts.

11. Don Sivyer - October 16, 2007

The reason; Sin.

Now the problem:

Who authored “sin”?

And thus the debate continues!

12. BoycottTBN - October 16, 2007

These pimps are ruled by their father the devil. They are completely self-promoting and as you can see when they are cornered they play any card they can to get out of the corner. I’ve read that members of their congregation can barely even recognize them anymore b/c of all the plastic surgery. These pimp$ and pimptre$$e$ are completely about money.

If Randy’s daughter is so important to her (yea right) then why did she leave and divorce him at such a terrible time as this? She doesn’t care about anyone but herself and money. She’s teamed up w/ Donald Trump and Tyra Banks, both of the world. She has a multi million dollar condo in NY in the Trump Towers. She has a private jet, body guards, designer clothes, expensive cars like Bentleys, she refused to give a house she promised to a single mom but then bought TD Jakes a Bentley, mansions, vacation homes….etc. She lives like a rock star all the while twisting scripture and telling lies to suit her purpose.

If you are saved by her ministry, then you are saved by the god of mammon…..find a real church and a real preacher before it’s too late.

Thank you Paul for at least trying to hold this slippery snake accountable. She’s a devil……2Tim4:3

13. Pixelmaster - October 16, 2007

Florence,

The problem is Calvinism, since it like the Jewish faith adopts the notion of being the “elect” it is easy for those who believe they are the elect to judge others. It absolves personal responsibility, because they take scripture about being the “elect” and run with it. When the fact of the matter is there is just as much scripture about our responsibility (free will) in our actions. I have heard Paul on the radio say that he cannot resist sin because it is all Jesus’ work, not his. To me, it is another way of justifying being judgmental, sin, war, poverty and many of the other injustices in our world. Of course there is the other rub of Calvinism that women “have their place”. It is a very misogynistic faith.

While I don’t agree with the scriptures you referenced (they are used all too much in the Word of Faith camp to justify odd scriptural stances). I do agree that Paul’s judgmental actions are more of looking at the splinter in Paula’s eye while he might be ignoring the plank in his own.

14. amis wasever - October 16, 2007

After reading the blogs, I turned to my Bible (KJV-Amplified, Zondervan publ). It opened to 2Peter2: captioned, “False prophets and teachers.”
1 BUTALSO [in those days] there arose false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among yourselves, who subtly and steathily introduce heretical doctrines (destructive heresies), even denying and disowning the Master Who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.
2 And many will follow their immoral ways and lascivious doings; because of them the true Way will be maligned and defamed.

3 And in their covetousness (lust, greed) they will exploit you with false (cunning) arguments. From of old the sentence [of condemnation] for them has not been idle; their destruction (eternal misery) has not been asleep.

20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through [the full, personal] knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they again become entangled in them and are overcome, their last condition is worse [for them] than the first.

21 For never to hve obtained a [full, personal] knowledge of the way of righteousness would have been better for them than, having obtained [such knowledge], to turn back from the holy commandment which was [verbally] delivered to them.

22 There has befallen them the thing spoken of in the true proverb, The dog turns back to his own vomit, and, The sow is washed only to wallow again in the mire. [Prov.26:11.] *********

My Sisters and Brothers in Christ, pray for the salvation of this world; pray for all of us sinners. In Jesus’ name.

15. Karl Fehn - October 16, 2007

Pixelmaster,
I do not agree. Where in the Bible does it say you can not judge? Are you talking about Matthew 7:1-4 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?”
The problem is that you need to remeber to include verse 5 too, “You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” Here, Jesus says clearly that you can remove the speck from another persons eye as long as you have removed the plank from your own eye first. Jesus does not say you can never attempt to help another person with removing a speck from their eye, He only warns you to be aware of your own sin before talking to others about their own sin.
Paul is not perfect, as you and I are also not perfect, but that does not mean we can not judge others when we see someone sinning. Otherwise, where do you get the idea you can judge Paul by calling him “judgemental”, and that is wwhat you called him, so you are practicing judgemental behavoir as Paul did on Paula White and as I am on you for your comments against Paul.
In fact, if you read 2 Timothy 3, verses 16 it says “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in rightousness.” Here we see, that it says we are to rebuke and correct, which I believe Paul was doing for Paula White, and he used Scripture to back up his claims, I am afraid that you are attacking Paul for trying to lovingly rebuke and correct Paula White for her misuse of scripture. I may not agree with everything Paul says, but Paul was not wrong in his talking to Paula White about her actions and words as he was following what the apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 3: 16, Paul was merely correcting and rebuking her. Which she wanted to part of, but only to promote her book, and not defending her self with scripture, but with avoidness fo the questiosn and the throwing out the comment about her daughter, when she was busy getting divorce, promoting a book tour on a happy feel good book that does not have much good theology in it, all while away from her duaghter who as made it sound like could be dead at any moment.
I feel for her and her family, I pray for her daughter in this trying time and that Paula White would have her eyes opened by God to the Word and what it really says about Christ, Love, Truth, forgivenss, Sin, Grace, and Mercy. It is never enjoyable to take someone and try to correct or rebuke them for their sins, but because we love them, we need to be willing to stand up for what is right, and not what is popular or uncontroverseial. Love and Truth can be hard to take sometimes and I am grateful for people like Paul Edwards who is not afraid to stand up for the Truth and to hold others accountable for what they claim to be true. I pray Pixelmaster, that God will let you see that correction and rebuking others is not always wrong, but as scripture shows, is needed at times.

16. Pixelmaster - October 17, 2007

Karl,

Yeah, I thought my comments would not be popular. My main issue, is that since tuning into his show a few months back I have heard Paul criticize, Word of Faith, Catholics, Church Growth, Emergent’s, Pentecostals, and etc. In addition, he paints a broad brush of criticism to anyone who is opposes the Bush administrations policies on the war and he seems to paint all democrats as something akin to evil. The point here is that Paul seems to have a “my way or the highway” attitude on most everything. There seems to be no willingness of humility in addressing topics. It’s almost as if he thinks that dogma was one of the beatitudes that Jesus taught on the Sermon on the Mount. I don’t think it was.

17. Paul Edwards - October 17, 2007

Pixelmaster,

When you get your own radio program you can be pro everything I’m against which seems to place you in the “my way or the highway” category, as well. The fact is we all have issues we are passionate about and you have rightly characterized my passion on some of the issues you raise. However, if you have really listened to my program you know that I have been among President Bush’s harshest critics on many issues. If you are unwilling to admit that I have, you really aren’t a listener to my program.

All of what Jesus taught is not encapsulated in the Sermon on the Mount. He left us the Holy Spirit who is guiding us into all truth. If the sum total of your Christian life is limited to the Sermon on the Mount, you have a legalistic relationship with Jesus that depends more on you than it does on Him.

The Apostle Paul asked his churches to pray that God would give him the ability to open his mouth and boldly proclaim God’s word. Even his supporters questioned his humility at times given his boldness for truth, so I’m honored to be in his company.

18. dismayed - October 17, 2007

The whole WORD OF FAITH movement is collapsiong like a house of cards….the smoke and mirrors are now revealing all of the utterly disgusting things going on in the name of our PRECIOUS LORD JESUS……she threw in the cancer story cause she could not take the heat……

WAKE UP CHURCH IN AMERICA……WE ARE BEING SPIT OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD……….

19. Don Sivyer - October 17, 2007

This one should surprise some of you, coming from me, that is.
This harsh tone we feel compelled to harbor and display is where the Fundamentalists went astray and deservedly earned their reputation. I as a card carrying member of this group at one time, feel that I can speak on this. Much of what we do as a child of God is past our finite minds to grasp the real depth of the problems we seek to address. Is our God unaware of these issues, or is he perhaps, out pursuing and unable to tend to these matters himself? Many of these issues can be addressed by confronting the doctrine, policy’s, and principles, without the attacking the soul responsible for their propagation. Sometimes the person themselves must be revealed. A fine line indeed. This is where I find myself now. I accept that my ability to correct these matters, such as this one in discussion, is better handled by the author of the operating manual we subscribe to. I often create unnecessary interference when my two cents is offered. And most of the time, that is the value it holds (2 cents). Paul, as a pastor is called to expose these errors as he is held accountable by God for his calling to his flock. Let me conclude with one verse, that if kept in balance with the entirety of scripture may aid us in our critique of people.

Romans 2:4
“Or despiseth thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance.”

Oh, for some real “righteous judgment” to be exercised. Thus the need to submit to God his rightful place in many of these things.

20. Concerned Sunday School Teacher - October 17, 2007

Florence and Pixmaster and others against Bro Paul Correction of Pulpit Pimps and Pimpettes,

The judgment you are speaking about is not used in the same context of discerning those who are stumbling blocks to others or who walk contrary to the word of God.

Bro. Paul is obedient to God’s Word in discerning Paula White and others who walk contrary to the Word of God. The Bible is clear in 1 Corinthians 15:9-13. NIV Apostle Paul letter to the Corinthian church: 9) “I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with immoral people; 10) I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolator, for then you have to go out of the world.11) But actually , I wrote to you not associate with any so called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolator, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler–not to eat with such one. 12)For what have I to do with judging outsiders? (i.e.people in the world) 13)Do you not judge those who are Within the Church? But those on who are outside, God judges. Remove the Wicked Man from Among Yourselves”.

We as saints should pray that she adheres to the warning from God through His people before God places judgment upon her and others in the like . The sad thing is Juanita Bynmum is experiencing the same falling down and away, as well. It is not about “me,me, me” but about HIM, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

May God Continue to Guide You!

21. fourpointer - October 17, 2007

2nd Timothy 4:1-4–”I charge [or, command] you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ…Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, REBUKE, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when THEY WILL NOT ENDURE SOUND DOCTRINE, but according to THEIR OWN DESIRES, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will TURN THEIR EARS AWAY FROM THE TRUTH, and be turned aside to fables.”

Sound familiar?

22. Concerned Sunday School Teacher - October 17, 2007

Correction on scripture is 1 Corinthians 5:9-13 not 1 Cor. 15:9-13.

Sorry, about that.

23. Hope - October 17, 2007

Dear dismayed,
I agree with you……….where are you church? We ARE being spit out of the mouth of an ANGRY God………….

24. WAKE UP - October 17, 2007

Let me remind everyone that John The Baptist minced no words when he brought up the HYPOCRISY TO THE RELIGIOIS LEADERS…and he laid in on the govermental secular leaders as well. Because doctrine is out the window…every pulpit is doing what is right in their own eyes. We have rampant APOSTACY and HYPOCRISY that is sinking the whole nation, spiritually. I GRIEVE FOR AMERICA….we are a nation in decline and it seems there is not a thing we can do about it but ride the titanic down hloding onto Jesus……(of the Holy scriptures..I have to clarify because He has been re-invented by MANY).; And the REASON I am so fired up is because 13 years ago the man who married my husband and I , has been arrested for sexually molesting two of his 8 adopted children.

STUNNED does not sound impacting enough….DEVASTATED does not imply the damage…..we scratch our heads and think…..”is every pulpit in America preverted”…is there ANY pastor living a life of Holiness? Are ANY of us really SAVED or are we all collectively kidding ourselves….

as nathan said to David…..THOU ART THE MAN…….

America./…….WE ARE THE MAN….our sins have risen (mine included) to the very center of God’s Throne and we can not “play church EVER AGAIN”…..TEAR YOUR GARMENTS……THROW DIRT UPON YOUR HEADS……WEEP WAIL AND MOURN AT THE ALTAR….FEAR GOD OR PERISH….we are sinful and living in Laodicea

25. Benjamin - October 17, 2007

Brother Paul…I wish I could hear the interview. I’ll look back & see if there is a button to click…Even a transcript???

OK, I have followed the White’s for years. Not as a “follower”, but an observer. I have met them. I live near Tampa. Paula especially has soooo much trash theology especially when it comes to raising $$$$ that I just tune in from time to time to see what she’s up to. You are right….ppl like this will do anything to divert attention from legit questions. These people need to be challenged theologically and otherwise. Randy and Paula are both disqualified from ministry in my opinion according to the Word. Not to mention the fact that neither one of them spend enough time in Tampa to be considered pastors. The sheep are without a shepherd.

26. Don Sivyer - October 17, 2007

Through all of this conversation Paul, I still commend you, for your grace and understanding of the basic fact that Mrs White is “a wounded and broken human being”. The critique was warranted yet seasoned with a dash of compassion for this drifting soul. I’m grateful that compassion is not out of business as of yet. We need not hate her to disagree with her. When we get past the fleshly appetite of Paula White and recognize her need of a touch from our Master, I believe we are closer to our Lord’s thinking, and are in ourselves beginning to sense the emotions of the cross when He cried out “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do”. If the church cannot be like Him who shall? As I recently recommended to a friend, let us put up the sword at this point and carry on the Lord’s work. The fields are still white unto harvest! We need more laborers.

27. N'Tegrity - October 17, 2007

Thank you Paul for conducting this interview. We need more people in the media that have the power to influence to expose all of the Paula and Randy Whites that are deceiving and manipulating God’s people.

28. Greg F - October 17, 2007

You called it right in your article.. but I’d take one exception with only one word.. replace the word “moment” with “Times” Paula White’s Desperate Times… We certainly need to keep this in prayer.. May the way we all pray on this issue, be stronger than our opinions we have on the issue….

29. cindy - October 18, 2007

My belief is that Paula White is a child of God who has made ministry her god. She is wrapped up in it. It is more important to her than anything else. She confuses God with ministry. I understood many of her points in this interview, and I understood Paul’s. But the elephant is still in the room because Paul and Paula left it there. Paul, why didn’t you ask the questions very directly, “Why are you getting a divorce? Why aren’t you stepping down from the ministry to work on your marriage? Why aren’t you being transparent?” Also, it would have been nice to ask her about her atonement offerings and all the other offerings she asks for in the “name of the Word.” Having said that, I think she’s a woman deluded about what is going on with her life and who definitely needs healing. Something is wrong and she needs to dig deep into her soul. She is gaining the whole world but losing her soul in my opinion. Just humble yourself Paula; love God first again, not the ministry. And for the record I pray in tongues and will never stop with that, my baptist brethren whom I love.

30. Laz - October 18, 2007

Pastor Edwards,
I don’t think I’ve ever thought about it like this,

If the sum total of your Christian life is limited to the Sermon on the Mount, you have a legalistic relationship with Jesus that depends more on you than it does on Him.

Thanks for the renewed insight.

31. Glenn - October 18, 2007

Pixel,
You criticize Paul for “painting with a broad brush” about religious institutions. So what are we to make of your broad brush strokes about Calvinism and Judaism? Speaking of Judaism, Rabbi Hillel had a saying, (it is close to what Jesus said), “What is hateful to you, do not do to another.”

If you don’t like stereotyping, don’t stereotype!

32. sanctifyme - October 18, 2007

I always have loved this little diddy..Apostle Paul never, never went around to the churches of Asia Minor..collecting monies/love gifts/seeds of faith..blah blah blah so that he could build a bigger and better soul winning for Jesus ship that would take him to the ends of the earth to proclaim the Gospel of Christ..no..poor ‘ol Paul just took up offerings in order to support the poorest of the churches..in Jerusalem..to share and disperse with the poor..to spread the wealth to those who needed it the most..wow..he even took up full time secular work to support himself..He paid for public transportation..to get where he needed to go..or he walked!…Isn’t it interesting that we have never uncovered a self help book written by Paul..you know, outside of Scripture..that he sold to the masses..so they could better understand and apply the Scriptures..wow..wow..he even SUFFERED for the Gospel..and was eventually murdered for our Lord’s Gospel..wow..what a contrast to the “leaders” in the pulpits of our generation..or any other generation for that matter..it always comes back to dying to self..I think..okay..I will stop..when you pray for poor Paula, Randy,Juanita, and the rest of The Baal Network ilk..please remember to pray for all the souls they have led astray..convinced that the message they have heard is legit..they need our prayers..that Holy Spirit Will unveil and remove the scales from their eyes..which Apostle lived the abundant life..got rich..and lived like a herodian king? uh, they all died for Jesus..they were murdered..wow what a contrast to the lives of so many supposed leaders of THE “faith”..not mine..I am humbled and inspired by those who are willing to suffer in this body..for our King and Lord..I want that kind of faith..love your enemies..1 Cor chapter 13..love never fails..I love you Calvary Chapel..thanks for spreading the Truth of the Gospel..amen!!

33. BoycottTBN - October 18, 2007

I’ve always wondered what these mega PIMPS tell their missionaries. Most missionaries live like paupers and have very little. They risk their lives and the lives of their families. Many have died for the cause and people just go on…..these pimps fly around in their private jets and living like rock stars and never give anyone else a second thought.

34. Rabbi Manuel Rodriguez Jr. - October 19, 2007

I believe that the greatest joy in knowing Yeshua is that “apart from Him I can do nothing” - John 15:5b. I praise G-d that I’m not “all that,” and that “I have been crucified with Messiah; and it is no longer I who live, but Messiah lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of G-d, who loved me and gave Himself up for me” - Gal 2:20. Satan believed that he was “all that” too, and look what happened to him. I am continually amazed at the lack of fear that these prosperity preachers have for the Word of G-d. Their message is totally contrary to the message of Messiah. Theirs’ is a gospel that cannot be taken to the whole world. My prayers go out to those who have fallen for their heresy.

35. fourpointer - October 19, 2007

The saddest part about the prosperity “gospel” isn’t the prosperity part. It begins with a total lack of biblical understanding about the relationship between man and God. First, they say that God gave Adam “authority” over the earth. Adam did not have AUTHORITY, he had DOMINION. Authority means “You have the final say over everything”, dominion means “You’re the top of the food chain, but you can’t do anything unless I let you.”

Think about it this way: If I am going out of town on a business trip, and I ask you, “Hey, can you watch my kid for a week?” I’ll probably leave you with a list of things the child can and can’t do; what he likes to eat, how late he can stay up, what shows he’s allowed to watch. I am giving you dominion over that child. I am placing that child in your care, and you are responsible for carrying out my desires for that child while I’m gone. Now, suppose you’re driving the child to school. A car pulls out of a side street and broadsides you. You take the child to the hospital, but in order for the doctors to do anything, they need to get permission from someone who is legally able to give that permission. someone who can authorize treatment. That child’s parent or guardian. Someone with the proper authority.

Then, these heretics say that when Adam sinned, he surrendered that authority to Satan, and God can’t do anything on earth unless Satan lets Him. They say that the Earth “don’t belong to Him.” Even though Psalm 24:1, Exodus 19:5, Deut. 10:14, and Isaiah 66:1 all say that the Earth belongs to the LORD, and that this earth is even His footstool.

Next, they say that Jesus died so that God could “strip Satan of his authority, and give it back to you in the name of Jesus.” (Kenneth Copeland, Victory! Magazine, 9/07, p.5.) Even though in Matthew 28:28, Jesus tells us that He has been given all authority in Heaven, and on Eatrth.

And did you know that Jesus’ physical death–and His shed blood–wasn’t the end of His work. In fact, many of these blasphemers say that He still had to go through three days and nights in Hell, being tormented by demons. (Not sure where they get this hogwash from.) Maybe they’ve never read Colossians 1:19-20, or Ephesians 2:14-16. In fact, they say that if it was just His physical death, ANYBODY could have done it.

Then, since we now have authority again, we can “name and claim in the name of Jesus!” Because we are “little gods.” Paul Crouch, Benny Hinn, Morris Cerullo have all made this claim.

The whole “prosperity” business is built on one heresy after another. And unless they repent, those who peddle it are headed for Hell, and they are taking many with them. And I will not apologize for calling them heretics.

Ephesians says there is not to be a hint of greed among us. The confusing thing about all of this is that Paula White is anointed. She can preach. But she isn’t living it right now. She was, but went the way of Balaam. Lord save us.

God bless you sir!!!!!

I appreciate the stand you took against the lies of the egocentric prosperity gospel propogated by Paula White. I was taken aback a bit by her craftiness but we have seen that before in the Garden of Eden. I sensed and empathized with the frustration in your voice because of her elusive answers. They frustrated Jesus too as is obvious in Matthew 23. There will come a day though when her lies will be exposed.

39. Lionel Woods - October 19, 2007

The sad thing is this Brother Paul, as we combat such heresy, another minnie me is being birthed. If you ever look at the TBN Telathons there is a competition for the next great heretic. One thing that Christ said to the pharissees spoke volumes to me he said “you go over mountain and valley to make a disciple and when you make one, you make them twice the son of hell than your selves” he then said “you stand at the gate and will not enter, and you prevent others from entering also”. Some many of their followers, have no clue of what the Gospel is. They think the Gospel is the sum of things as if, Jesus never meant what he said in Matthew 6. I feel bad because I find myself debating with love ones through the scriptures and their validity of these wovles ministry is wealth. As if Satan couldn’t grant them the wealth of this world. I feel bad for this chick, and my heart goes out Brother Paul. My heart is heavy for their salvation, but they want no part of what the biblical Jesus has to offer. “What profits a man (or a woman in this instance).

The beauty is that at least Michael Horton, John McArthrur, Sproul, and Piper are speaking out against this. Brother Thabati is also starting to step up to help in this arena. I pray that God would grant them a similar platform to present His truth. God bless and I appreciate the ministry.

40. Bill Connell - October 19, 2007

I think Paul handled a very difficult interview with insight, conviction, integrity, and compassion. Last of all, Brother Paul: glad it was you and not me! We truly need to support your ministry in constant prayer.

Hello this is my first time posting on your blog.
I thought it was important to share a video on youtube no so much of Paula White but her (husband) Randy.
it maybe a contribution to the divorce :( .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8ngQ0fq6PI
it is some street preachers in tampa, Fl in the Ybor city neighborhood and they happen to come across Randy.

42. sanctifyme - October 21, 2007

We are all to be as bereans acts 17:11..searching the Word and holding this heretic’s teaching against the whole Counsel of God..one can see that Paula White’s message is not in sync with the Truth..what else is there to say? except depart from the unclean thing..? Another thing ..no woman is to be in a authoritative pastoral role over men in the Church..just is not Biblical..rampant as it may be throughout the modern Church..it is also a heresy..not many want to tackle that one..

43. brotherlove - October 22, 2007

Paul, i agree with another commentor that you were gracious in the interview. Even though Paula is undeniably in error, i personally see no gain if you had attacked her viciously. i came across your blog while surfing, have never heard of you previously, but appreciate the integrity you displayed by keeping on task, instead of letting the conversation deteriorate into some rant.
I think it’s interesting that in the posted responses, each respondent has their own pet part of the fish to fry, and most have their favorite pet doctrines outlined and referenced with scripture, as they understand it, whether taken out of context or not.
The bottom line for me is that anyone who goes through divorce needs to step away from ministry for a time. I understand that people get divorced, and no matter what anyone says, divorce is gut-wrenching at times. There is a lot of pain, issues to deal with, etc. One of the problems is that christians won’t allow ministers to make mistakes, to be human. I’ve heard it said by many : God’s army is the only one that shoots its wounded.
Simply put, i don’t agree with what Paula teaches, so i don’t support her ministry. Thank God for America, shaded and jaded as she is.

44. Santo - October 22, 2007

Paul,

two thumbs up for being gracious and respectfully handled the interview..it’s a pity that you didn’t cornered her hard enough and squeeze the real answer out why she decided to end her marriage.
In my opinion, this is embarassing, broadcast the divorce decision over national television, and to make it worst, they announce it in the church during a service….and did it with pride…MY OH MY…

i see no difference in comparing her “doctrine” as with the method of THE SECRET, except that the name of God is included

I totally agree with you, it’s not only her “daughter who needs prayer, she needs it most….God Bless her soul…..

45. Santo - October 22, 2007

Paul,

could you point out the difference between the prosperity doctrine and THE SECRET ??? and other aspects as well apart from material prosperity…..like healing crusade, motivational speaker claiming themselves to be servant of God…etc…

cause in these times, there are many pastors who are doing deeds for the benefit of themselves rather than the benefit of the Body of Christ.

Thank you….

46. Owusi Jerrie - October 25, 2007

Hello people,

Great thoughts and views! Have you thought about the fact that the Christian community issue is fundamental, one largely premised presently on wrong foundation? No wonder the rancor and associated arguments.

In product development, it is the exclusive right of the creator/ manufacturer to name a product, because the name suggests its character. It was the people in Antioch that called them Christians and not Jesus! Christianity - from several suggestions would mean a people trying to be like Christ but that is not what Jesus came to do. He is the first fruit and we are same like him (the vine and we are the branches). All of these could be seen as growing up processes. This should give one a view we must take when addressing a Christian that is in the wrong. What I would refer as growing up experience - we all once walked on all fours (hands & legs) like animals but that was babyhood stage but there is also growing up, even when you are fully grown sometimes you may find yourself for whatever reason on all fours (I would hope it is for awhile and not a lifestyle).

There is a life after here, a life of ruler ship and God knows that and we should recognize that, we would be given responsibility higher than what we had on this earthly plane…Jesus said that, for the Joy that was set before him - he endured the cross and the shame. God respects human will but that is what decides for the individual where you would be at the next life - the position you would occupy, because God has a large family you see and he is a just God…and there is not favoritism here! You would be rewarded according to your work. Remember God’s word is our talent to trade or live with, he would not trade it for you, you would have to make the investment options, if you make 30%, 60%, 100% percent - good for you! He would always seek to help us with His wise counsel but it is ours to choose.

If a Christian chooses to remain a baby, leave him or her, God is not mocked you see! Whatsoever a man sows that shall he also reap. Then it told us not to sow to the flesh - (sensory reasoning - which is elementary really) but to the spirit! To some they don’t even know what defines happiness, fun and prosperity for them! it is like a baby looking at the cloud and thinking …wow! “It is and looks so solid…so real”…but we know my reason of growth that the clouds is simply air! Why the division over nothing? If you are intelligent ……wow! Praise God and keep it for your credit and please don’t use it to cause division! Instead of us focusing on areas we disagree and strengthen the division (which is the desire of the devil), lets us focus on areas we agree! If you believe that Jesus is lord …lets get moving and working together.

Men and women are not their bodies nor are they their emotions! We are higher than these two but - what a deception to see many being controlled by it! What is reality? What informs what is real to us? Is it our reasoning or our emotions or the word of God? However if a brother chooses to live and copulate with another brother…. please leave them alone (and love them anyways because it is your life and reward to love) …they have made their choice of having their bodies and their mind control them. As they have theirs to deal with remember you have yours to deal with. Let each one of us focus on working out (expressing) their wholeness (salvation) in Christ with fear and trembling (meaning - with strict adherence to detail from the master plan) knowing that He would repay us with JOY!

The joy that Jesus was willing to forego every insult, shame, physical pain for……Oh! i am looking forward to Joy! I am not going to let myself be deceived that all these things in these world are that tangible and real, if i fall …i will get me up again because am focused of having a 100% yield - having traded with word of God on this plane and made profits.

Lets stop the debate and let each one focus on trading/living the word of God! For you that have issues - I say to you ….use (trade) the word on that area —you would see profit…i know you will because nothing is greater than the word of God.
Know this, Gal 3:27; for all of you who have been baptized into Christ, have clothed yourselves with Christ! You are Christ now! Start living/trading (expressing) who you truly are! Anything outside of you in Christ is not real and should be subsume by the real one!

Love you all my family in Christ!

Cheers!

Dear Paul & Readers,

I have recently found myself overwhelmed by the current condition of the church & America. In my study of the Bible and critically looking at my own life I have begun to examine the sickening “mainstream” prosperity preaching and other radical and strange teachings we face today. I was pricked in my spirit to be careful to watch women ministers who lavish themselves with expensive attire, botox, finger nails, and false eye lashes and to really see the simplicity of the life God calls us to. As I watch Paula White and I try desperately to hear the message all I can do is look at her outward appearance and realize I cannot listen to this because anyone who will spend so much on themselves and not give that sum to the poor and modestly dress is not someone I personally feel is going to teach me “The Way, The Truth, and The Life.”

Simply, Jesus Christ took the desire away from me for money, and “things” that are so unimportant and he placed a desire to give and to recognize my own Needs over Wants. Sell all you have and follow me……………so simple and so true. Peter & John said to the crippled man, Silver and Gold have I none but what I do have I give to you, RISE UP & WALK. Our inheritance in this life looks very different one to another, and people who have a large sum of inheritance in this life contend with having to find a way to GIVE it AWAY constantly, otherwise it is hoarding treasure for themselves here on earth, and what we treasure is visible to the world. I think very simply we know people by their fruit and what they treasure is very obvious to the eye, which according to Christ is the lamp of the body. I think what I’ve learned and maybe we all can consider is that TRUTH will prevail, and that somehow someway God is trying to wake up people like Paula thru destruction of relationships, and eventually other areas of their personal life, but my true heart is toward the people who are so swayed by the flesh that this teaching they take hold of and sink their soul into. It’s hard to deny yourself, but maybe that is why Narrow is the Gate. We know thru King David that God can and will restore those who have a true heart for him and I hope and pray this for Paula and her husband, but the real THING is the multitude of people who I truly pray for and ask you to join with me. People in this country who really have no concept of our heritage as a country and just how lost we are in America. My fellow believers God is showing you and I something of serious nature so that we can begin to intercede for ourselves, our nation, and the church. Ask yourself this question, How much do we spend to heat and cool a church building with no occupants majority of the time? Now, what would Christ really want us to do with that money? I recently heard in my community that a very very large church only gives away $50 to needy families, and yet a building of no earthly worth stands and the soul of an afflicted person which is of such greater value is calling out to see what the heart of the church is truly made of. This issue of prosperity is much deeper than just blatant misuse of the Bible such as Paula has done, it is in each of us and our communities. Where is the priority of the church, paying thousands of dollars to speakers to come and exhort the body of Christ…….when a homeless man or woman stands right down the street who needs a coat? What value do we place on the soul? Our money as a church family is a sign to God of what we value…………next time you sit down to eat think about that simple daily bread you’ve been given and ask God how you can find someone to give that meal to instead. Its necessary my brothers and sisters to truly GET THIS. I know I am ashamed of my selfish life, and I pray that everyday that God would entrust meeting the need of someone to my care and that I would hear that need and do all that I can to glorify God and meet that need as he gives resource. Are we using the resources God has given us as Christ truly instructed? Maybe WE ALL NEED to revisit the word and hear what Christ says about Money, and the Poor, and the Needy, and what really denying ourselves truly means. Can Americans really give up fleshly desire to fulfill the gospel? This isn’t just prosperity preaching problems, this is the entire chuch that has a problem. Let’s wake up.

hi! i must say this is a rather refreshing blog. thank God i came upon it. and thank you paul for being compassionate while sticking to the truth. i expect to view this blog a lot more. and i am praying for paula cos i believe this storm (which she no doubt brought on herself for making ministry her god) was allowed by God. if she’s to get right with God, she was going to have to drop all that baggage, willingly or by force.

49. mona - October 26, 2007

hi paul. i know u meant well but do you suppose paula’s learnt her lesson? im not judging her or you but u really should have asked her why she’s still pastoring.

50. kiki d - October 26, 2007

great blog. and i liked your aproach too paul. i wish a lot of christians would realise that we really wrestle not against flesh and blood. anyone in public ministry’s bound to face all kinds of terrible temptations and invariably, their human sides come rushing forth.

we all need the Word on a constant basis paul. not just when we’re about to go face our 2million member church.
we also need to ground ourselves by remaining humble. we’re just men. cant say this enough. finally a blog i love. thanx paul.

I am aware of the situation with the Whites and I just heard the radio interview. I am sorry that her daughter is sick and she and Randy do need our prayers. HOWEVER, I do think that she used that situation to deflect the issue. The question is this….. If you had praised her during the interview, would she have scolded you about not asking about her daughter????? I don’t think so. She should repent for using her daughter’s illness as a scape-goat……especially if she left for a book signing right after the interview.

52. Liz Neuch - November 6, 2007

Paula and other television “ministries” gobble up money while true financially accountable ministries ( Salvation Army, Campus Crusade for Christ, your local homeless shelter) struggle. Don’t give money to ANY ministry not in ECFA!

53. Pixelmaster - November 7, 2007

I heard this for the first time the other day and man, I thought that Paul was brutal to Paula. I don’t agree with her theology, or her decision to divorce and stay in the ministry. However, I couldn’t help but of the Biblical story of Jesus and the Pharisee’s with the adulterous woman. He who is without sin……

54. Paul Edwards - November 7, 2007

Pixelmaster,

There is a major difference between Paula White and the woman taken in adultery - and REPENTANCE is the key word. The woman taken in adultery wasn’t the “pastor” of a multimillion dollar “ministry” leading hundreds of thousands of people down a path of deception.

I would liken my conversation with Paula more to how Jesus confronted the Pharisees, not with how he dealt with genuinely repentant sinners.

55. Pixelmaster - November 7, 2007

Paul, the thing is, the scripture we are talking about never once mentions the lady repenting.

Joh 8:1 but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
Joh 8:2 Early in the morning he came again to the temple. All the people came to him, and he sat down and taught them.
Joh 8:3 The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst
Joh 8:4 they said to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery.
Joh 8:5 Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?”
Joh 8:6 This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground.
Joh 8:7 And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”
Joh 8:8 And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground.
Joh 8:9 But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him.
Joh 8:10 Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
Joh 8:11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”

So why are you saying that the woman was repentent? I am I missing this from another gospel or is this an implied theological stance? I get the theological thing with Word of Faith, I don’t agree with it, I think the Lord will seperate the wheat from the chaff in that camp. But the constant attack during the interview was rather disappointing. I am sure when all of us stand before the judgement seat of Christ someday we might find out that we are not as righteous as we thought we were. Thanks

56. revelation411 - November 8, 2007

Paul -
As I stated in my previous post on October 28, I heard the radio interview in its entirety and at no time were you cruel to Paula White. Did you ask her some tough questions? Certainly. But you were not out of line or merciless towards her. You were just trying to gain an understanding as to how in God’s name can her theology and her personal life not be a reflection of her relationship with God (whether it be good or bad). Your interview wasn’t meant to be a “puff piece”. You were there to present her with REAL QUESTIONS. Paula White makes MILLIONS off of her flock. That lady is sly as a fox. She’s not some wounded little angel that needs to be coddled. If her motives for ministry were pure she would not have had any problem answering those questions…..and using her daughter’s illness to deflect the issue was just plain tacky. An unsaved person wouldn’t have even has stooped that low.

If you ask me, I actually think you went soft on her.

57. revelation411 - November 8, 2007

Rubbish…..

Paul,I listened to your interview with Paula White in it’s entirety and you were in no way abusive or judgmental towards her. Did you ask her some tough questions? Yes. Correct me if I’m wrong, but your interview with her wasn’t meant to be a “puff piece”. You were there to ask REAL QUESTIONS. This lady makes MILLIONS off of her flock. Have you seen her on stage??? She’s as slick as they come….and far from being the wounded little angel that needs to be coddled. If she had a pure heart, she wouldn’t have had a problem with those questions that you asked her.

Any temptation that I had to feel sorry for her disintegrated when she used her daughter’s illness to save her own hide. That was as tacky as you can get. An unsaved person wouldn’t even stoop that low. She needs to confess what she did to God AND her daughter and beg forgiveness.

58. wanda - November 13, 2007

It is unbelievable that one would feel sorry for Paula White. She with her eyes wide open twists scripture to get what she wants. It is not about Him, it is all about Paula. Everyone is being exposed, their true purposes are no longer hidden. People with their itching ears hear and believe they will be rich. It is not Jesus for whom people are searching but things told them that they can be rich, just throw money to Paula and God will bless you one hundred fold more or less. Just because one claims they are anointed, claims they are a prophet does not make it so. Prosper and be in health…..people are taught this means money. Where is the love for people? It is not about things, it is about people. All are asleep, wake up.

59. Pixelmaster - November 16, 2007

Wanda,

If your assestment is true and as you feel she is lost and decieving others the Bible is pretty clear about people who do this. Would that be worthy of feeling sorry for? The properity doctrine is messed up and robs a lot a lot of good people of their hard earned money, however those leaders who do this to God’s people will likely suffer worse than the most aweful of the unsaved. I think that is worth prayerful sorrow for these people.

60. wanda - November 19, 2007

If one does not know any better then I would feel sorry for them. I was a partner for a long time with one of these misintries in 1970 for quite some time. I became quite ill, comatose for weeks and when I finaly came home and gained strength I contacted this ministry to send in my monthly check. I was told I was no longer a partner, my member number was taken away. I explained I had been ill for some time and could not send in my checks. I was told that I should never have gotten sick in the first place. I was devastated. I learned something. It took me many years to see what these people were doing. My eyes were opened. A man stands in the place of the high priest, Jesus today, and says send me your money and God will answer your prayers, you will be rich and healthy. You hear Mal. 3 about bringing your tithes into the storehouse….it is speaking to ELI and his sons and others who stole the best kept for sacrifice. Yet out of all the O.T. laws this one is for today, we are told in the N.T. if we keep one we must keep all. Jesus came as the old law was too hard. Now one law, well, love God and then our neighbor as ourself. We will keep all the commandments if we do this. We are to give today as we determine in our hearts. Read about tithes and offerings in the O.T. One we are to have eaten in the presence of the Lord. Tithes was not money but produce. Many different tithes mentioned. We do not hear these things. We should pray for everyone. We shall all suffer for what we do. Lying is one of the worst things, isn’t it? Telling people what God is going to do for them if they will just send you something is a lie, no one can make promises for God. Food in the storehouse. People in church go hungry and many go without many things to give to these people, the people are the church. Oh, this most wonderful God will take care of us all. He knows the thoughts and intents of our hearts. We can trust only in Him. Everyone is free to choose, to love others, to give what and to whom they please. Churches who no longer take tithes, take gifts and offerings and I have heard their income is greatly increased. Let us pray for one another and for everyone. I do not set myself up as an example. I have much to learn, a long way to go. What comes out of our mouth shows who and what we are.

61. ALice Brown - November 22, 2007

Paula WHite and husband Randy need to be held accountable for “pimping” the Church. Take them to the highest court if need be and have them repay what they have fleeced off of God’s people! If you can’t walk the walk, for God’s sake get out of the ministry!

62. revelation411 - November 26, 2007

Paula White is going to be promoting “You’re All That” on Larry King tonight. I seriously doubt that King is going to ask Paul very many questions about her lifestyle and her theology like Paul did because he’s not a Biblical scholar and many not be capable of addressing such issues. So I’m pretty sure it’s going to mainly be a “puff piece”….UNLESS, someone calls in on the phone lines like they did to Joel Olsteen. Remember that? He ALMOST got away with denying Jesus until that lady called in and busted him.

Paul, are you going to watch it?

63. Paul Edwards - November 26, 2007

I will indeed be watching.

64. revelation411 - November 27, 2007

RE: Paula White’s Appearance on Larry King Monday, Nov. 26th
.
Thanks, Paul. I’m glad you are going to watch it. I’d like to hear your perspective on it if you’d like to share.
.
I watched the interview myself last night. It was more of the same. There were two snippets during the interview where King took some questions from people via email who questioned Paula’s lifestyle and theology. But then she turned into the “classic Paula White” where she goes on endless tangents instead of giving a straight forward answer to the question. That’s a tactic often used by people who are trying to divert the issue and take control of the conversation so that only what they want to discuss gets discussed. She did that during her interview with Paul Edwards as well, but with a lot less success than with King. During his interview, Edwards had the body of Christ in mind as apposed to “the general public” therefore he was better at making her stay on topic.
.
When asked about her lavish lifestyle, instead of just being honest and saying…… “I love money. I love the power and influence that money gives me. I love being able to hob-knob with people like Donald Trump and Tyra Banks. I like having my own jet so I don’t have to come in contact with common folk. I like purchasing $400,000 Bentleys for people like TD Jakes. I like being able to do things like get plastic surgery.” ……No, instead of just answering the question, she pointed out how expensive it must be for Larry King to produce his TV show….just like she questioned what type of automobile Paul Edwards drove to work. (Which Paul quickly told her was a 6 year old economy car).
.
Larry King asked her why she was so appealing to African Americans…..because she seemed to be very good at “black preaching”. Paula said it’s because she’s a bridge-builder. With all due respect, I’m black don’t share that viewpoint at all. When it comes to Paula White’s “black preaching” she’s not a bridge-builder…..she’s a chameleon……a fake. I think that I can shed a little light on why she might be so appealing to blacks. It’s the same reason most of these prosperity preachers have a large black following. They know that many (although not all) African Americans have a lot to overcome…especially in the area of our finances. And prosperity preachers of all races are exploiting this for their own personal gain. They spend half of their time using ebonics in the pulpit to lure in the less educated sheep, then they fly to NY and use perfect English on the Larry King show to appeal to the more affluent Christians that are striving to heap up even more riches unto themselves…..as well as unsaved people who have the same goals in mind. Sadly, Jesus Christ is just a distant figure in the background.
.
When asked about Sen. Charles Grassley’s probe into the finances of Paula White and 5 other tele-vangelists, she gave the same response the others did…. “We comply with all IRS regulations regarding 501(3)(c).” …. Well, maybe they should all be given a chocolate-chip cookie and a pat on the head for doing what the government tells them to do. But does that necessarily mean that they are doing what is right in God’s eyes? Do these preachers serve the Internal Revenue Service or do they serve the Lord Jesus Christ? Do we let man set the standard for us or God?

.
The most damning part of the interview was when she FLAT-OUT contradicted what she said to Paul Edwards on Oct 12th. King asked her…”Must I be a believer to appreciate the book?” Paula answered….”Oh, absolutely not”. But if you heard the interview with Paul Edwards, you might remember that he respectfully confronted Paula about how humanistic her book is….about how much emphasis there is on “self”. Paul Edwards told Paula that it’s not about us, but it’s about CHRIST IN US. Paula seemed to agree with Edwards only after he pressed the issue. Then she turns right around and gets on Larry King and says that unsaved people can “absolutely” benefit from her book. How? If the book is about “CHRIST IN US” like she said to Paul Edwards then how can her book benefit anybody until they receive Christ as Lord first???? What good does it do for a man to gain the whole world, but lose his soul? That’s the problem that I have with a lot of these guys. People are going to hell and all they can preach about is prosperity…(aka money). Read the story of Lazarus and the rich man in the Bible and find out how much good your riches are going to do you if you die without Christ.
.
It turns out that I was right about what I said in the comment that I posted on October 28. I said: “The question is this….. If you had praised her during the interview, would she have scolded you about not asking about her daughter????? I don’t think so. She should repent for using her daughter’s illness as a scape-goat……especially if she left for a book signing right after the interview.” I don’t recall Larry King asking one question about the health Paula’s step-daughter. He didn’t utter a single word about it. Why didn’t Paula bring it up like she did on the Paul Edwards show? Why didn’t she imply that King was an insensitive jerk for not doing so? Could the reason possibly be because she was allowed to promote her book and defend her lifestyle without being confronted? Just wondering……
.
Paul, I’d like to hear your thoughts on the interview if you’d like to share.

65. Chris - November 28, 2007

Reading these “damning” messages from people who call themselves Christians (followers of Christ, who taught love & forgiveness & provided salvation once for all), is like watching a piece of meat being thrown into a tank of pirhana. Why must you in the name of Christ feed on hatred, suspicion, gossip, & extreme judgement of another in your flock? You don’t have to LIKE all televangelists but you are called to LOVE them. I have seen such cynical, critical comments online toward Osteen, White, & others which truly saddens me. These witch hunts & what appears to be feeding frenzies over others’ perceived imperfections is immature at the very least. Of course those who are in leadership or visible positions will be under a magnifying glass. Could you stand such scrutiny? Or are you flawless? Seems this is the point of the gospels…the scripture you so fearfully cling too. Remember, let he/she who is without sin cast the first stone? No one was left in this scenario in the parable, oh, except Jesus…Hmmm…Ah & the point of Christianity is that no one can withstand such scrutiny, thus, Christ became the ultimate sacrifice, standing in our place. Sigh…how quickly we forget…self righteousness, now that is the enemy. It is true deceit because we stand up on our high horse in indignation at what we perceive incorrectly. It is impossible to know what is being claimed is known about Paula White & others. (her motives) I am not a fan of televangelists per se, but what others are saying about them in the name of Christ is disheartening. It is erroneous & it is NOT love. Love. It is so simple. Why must we make it so difficult for ourselves & others? Some day we may be the ones being attacked & kicked around by the “Christians” we know. God help us…

66. revelation411 - November 29, 2007

What’s “not love” are these supposed ministers of the gospel getting on shows like Larry King (where thousands are watching) and saying that people don’t have to get saved…or at the very least, downplaying the absolute necessity of getting saved by saying that people don’t have to be saved to benefit from the principals in their books like Ms. White and Mr. Olsteen have both done. What’s “not love” is being more concerned with telling people what their itching ears want to hear in order to fill their pews and sale their books than getting people ready for eternity.

We need to repent for our idolatry of man and get back to Jesus before it’s too late. God help us, indeed……

68. Ken - December 7, 2007

Chris,
Believe it or not, you can love and have a backbone too. There is a time and a place for everything. I have two unsaved brothers. Would it benefit me to slam scripture in their face or to love and build a friendship first. I think the latter is appropriate, but eventually through my life and witness I must deliver the word of God to them. That is how I do it. I believe that you should build a friendship by loving people as they are and then win them to Christ through that friendship. Everything must be done in love and sincerity. Why? Its Christlike and most people can sense a phony when they see one.
In regards to Paula and Randy, what kind of horrible example are they are showing young Christians? I really think they are just a few of what I call “Pastors of the Laodicean Movement” AKA “Prosperity Preaching”. With the bold “In Yo FACE” they divorced without any scriptural backing, they live a bold and lavish lifestyle and they respond with slick answers to the most basic of questions. I have one simple question. Where is the integrity? Where is the fear of God, knowing that teachers will receive a much stricter punishment? Am I alone in taking the Bible seriously at what it so sharply states? I hope I never have to say to my son “There once was a time when we could trust our preachers”.

69. Mary - December 7, 2007

Pray for the Whites? I’m sorry but I don’t consider them even in the faith. I will pray that they come to repentance for real. I don’t believe they have a conscience. When will people stop supporting these frauds and read their Bibles? I believe Paul you showed us a brief shade of what these word of faith televangelists and teachers will experience at the Great Judgement when they won’t be able to divert the attention away from their deeds and will have to give an account for their false teaching.

70. STEVE - December 21, 2007

WHY IS IT THAT PEOPLE DO NOT WAKE UP TO THESE EMPTY SUITS OF HALF TRUTHS FOR GAIN AND CREEDYNESS
IN THE LAST DAYS, IF THOSE DAYS HAD NOT BEEN SHORTENED
EVEN THE ELECT WOULD BE DECEIVED AND FALL. HERE IS THE REAL
PROBLEM, PEOPLE (HEAD OF THESE SO CALLED MEGA CHURCHES)
FEEL THEY CAN SAY ANYTHING, AND CLAIM ITS COMING FROM GOD.
THEY TWIST THE WORD OF GOD FOR THERE OWN GAIN. WHERE IS THE DISCERNMENT, ANY ONE CAN TELL THAT THESE PASTORS
ARE IN IT FOR MOSTLY FINANCIAL GAIN, BUT ITS ALOT OF THE PEOPLE THAT GIVE MONEY TO THESE MINISTRIES THAT ARE BEING
DECEIVED AND ITS PARTAILLY THERE OWN FAULT FOR NOT HAVING A DISCERNING SPIRIT TO KNOW BETTER. WAKE UP AND BEFORE ITS TO LATE.

71. Florence Eboreime , London UK - December 27, 2007

For those who don’t understand Paula White and her ministry, If you dont understand spiritual things according to the word of God, all you need do is ask the Holy Spirit, especially the beleivers, the bible says he guides us into all truth….. From where I stand Paula is an ordinary woman with an extraordinary God, she is stands out because she is an anointed woman of God. Think about what God has used her to do in lives of people, the many many lives on their way to hell and Paula leading them to the Lord, that these people will not perish but have life everlasting, the healing God used her to perform, the miracles and restoration, you need to hear testimonies after testimonies. For those who do not understand this, suffice it to say that God loves Paula and He loves you and I very much. As far as I know Paula has left her Egypt ages ago. Those of you still living in the past of Paula’s challenges need to GET OVER IT. She is blessed and highly favoured and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Anyone of you been on Larry King live lately? If I recall, Joel Osteen, Paula White or did I say Paula White…
Have a blessed day everyone I just love the God of Paula White, He is Jehovah, Almighty God. Dont blame me. I just cant help it cos He is good to me too., Have a great 2008, I know I will with new beginnings by His power. Thanks Paul Edwards for a great site, Will be back, another time.

72. David - March 4, 2008

It amazes me how quickly some professing Christians come to the defense of Paula White and others, and begin to condemn those who tell the Truth about her. Let me offer this thought — instead of making a martyr out of Paula White, maybe we ought to evaluate the untold damage the false teaching she promotes and practices has done to Christian lives. Read what God says about false teachers in the Bible, and how we ought to handle them, and deal with that, instead of defending someone who is preaching, “another gospel.”

74. Harry - March 7, 2008

she is a fake.. AT heart lies of the devil..Money is her God.Let it be known truth..lets not water it down as Christians just as Christ didnt water it down when they we’re making the church a den of thieves an He overthrew the tables.. Say it as it is……. Her heart is evil an her thrist is unquenchable… Lives in mansions yet professes a nicely plan wording of deceit an gain from the trodden at heart,Thsi is the work of the devil…….. DONT BE DECEIVED

75. Virtuouswmn - March 10, 2008

I was a member of WWIC for about 6 years, I left just before all of the stories broke. I did not leave angry or with alt against anyone. I left because the spirit within (of God) urged me to leave. However, I did still visit WWIC from time to time. I was actually in attendance at the service when Pastor Randy and Pastor Paula announced thier divorce. I was heart broken and there were many people in the congregation openly sobbing and some who even got up and walked out. So the statement that the ministry was not effected at all - is obviously not true for many more reasons than just the reactions in the sanctuary when the announcement was made.
I agree that if we go to our sisters and brothers in Christ in Love then there is no problem. But we must remember that God is the creator and in the end they have to work it out with HIM. I don’t however feel that it is Christ-like to air dirty laundry “LIVE” on a radio station. Get the picture of Jesus bending down writing in the sand - and everyone else walking away, throwing no stones!!!
I don’t know what Pastors Randy and Paula White may or may not be guilty of but I do know that we as Christians should pray for them and if they have done wrong, when they repent and ask for forgiveness, we should throw our arms around them and forgive them and pick them up. Simply because the God that we serve would do the same.

Shocking Biblical Truth

77. LJ - April 7, 2008

I can’t believe the way people defend these charlatans. I’m in the wrong business. If it’s that many gullable, bible illiterates out there, I’m throwing my hat in the ring. Stay tuned I’ll be the next one to dazzle you on TBN. And get this I won’t even have to be saved to do it. So get your pocketbooks ready and I will only take cash no checks because you know what bad checks do.
PS all in fun but I’m sure y’all see what I’m trying to convey here.

78. pursuingdestiny - April 10, 2008

I think what the church needs today is balance. On one end of the spectrum we have almost every single pastor (especially the ones on TV) telling us that, “It’s our time, it’s our season. Money, money, money, is on the way on the way on the way.” Then on the other end we have people boasting about how old their car is, as if that (and how much they don’t have) is a measure of their commitment to Christ. Somewhere in the middle is where I believe we ought to be.

79. nicholas pearson - May 7, 2008

All of the people who call that woman a corruput leader or a charlatin have no room to talk. All you people who speak badly about one of Gods prophets should be cursed. The bible say over and over again to respect leaders. that means that no matter how bad you dislike something that has gone on you as a person have NO room to speak againstr her. She has Been Gods tool in many instances. Just because she has faults doesn’t make her a false prophet or a corrupt minister. I can look at that woman and clearly see that she has the love of God in her heart and honesty did was she was instructed to do by her leaders. She is a wise woman who heeded the word of her leaders. God bless her and she may be a broken woman, but that doesnt mean she is unusable! God will bring glory out of her desperate situation. I think that her bringing up the daughter with cancer was just her speaking out of hurt. I would be hurt to if the media paid no attention to my sick daughter, but focused on my divorce! I say we as ther body of christ should encourage her ministry and shove her along deeper and deeper into God ,not try and correct her, when NONE of us have been in her shoes! correcting her is her leaders Job! not ours! leave the woman alone! has she not suffered enough! lets just say that her divorce is evidence of sin, was the divorce itself not payment for sin!?(if there was any) It very much could have been her husbands actions that ended the mairage! shame on all who speak agains a woman of God who clearly wants to please the Lord above all!

80. Paul Edwards - May 7, 2008

Nicholas,

The interesting thing about Paula White critcizing me for not asking about her dying daughter (”her daughter” is actually Randy White’s daughter from a previous marriage) was that she was speaking those words to me while sitting on a private jet in the middle of an eight city book tour. If Randy’s daughter’s illness was so important to Paula, why is she on a tour promoting her book rather than sitting at the side of “her” daughter.

The word of God is the standard and judge, not us. “If they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them” (Isaiah 8:20). 1 Thessalonians 5 instructs us to test the prophecy and then hold on to what is good and reject what is corrupt.

Set your personal “feelings” aside and allow the word of God to expose truth and error.

81. berean - May 15, 2008

Paul,

Paula preaches what she believes is sound theology based on years of following televangelists. They are her mentors. This teaching is all she’s ever known. The reason she’s so dangerous is because of her passion. She is an extremely compelling speaker. She doesn’t understand how to rightly divide the word and study the whole council of God. All Christians are called to approach and examine the scriptures in the same way. She is misleading many but I honestly don’t think she sees her error.

Obviously, Paula and others like her are preaching “another gospel”. My issue is with teachers like Rick Warren, Bill Hybels, etc. who teach yet “another gospel” — the gospel of conforming the church to the image of this world. They just happen to teach in a more subtle, sophisticated way. Do you ever challenge them?

82. caroline storm - May 30, 2008

i think this is a very sensitive issue. i mean, as children of God we just need to have the spirit of discernment so that we don’t end up heaven knows where. our pastors’ preachings are so powerful that we can even be offended when other people bash them like this but hey, we all wanna share our opinions. i’m in south africa and believe me we deal with the same issues. let me say it again, we need to have the spirit of discernment. paula could have started right and lost it on the way and i think we can pray for her and God will restore her. let’s not conclude that she is a false teacher.

83. Astrid - June 17, 2008

Well I don’t really know Paula ,I just saw her on tv and read about her. All I see, hear and read is people that attack her now I’m not taking her side. She may use people to get what she wants us have you ever considered anything from her point of view or why ? I don’t think anything she is doing is for the money or fame there must be a real reason behind all her actions. I may be wrong and she to but to make her admit by dragging her name threw the mud. Thin before yo act. PLEASE YOU MIGHT HURT PEOPLE FOR NO REASON.

84. Pierre - June 21, 2008

Preaching or writing a Holy Spirit enspired message - often named such by the speaker - then copy writing it and selling it. Matthew 10 especially verse 8 - Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy,[2] drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

79. nicholas pearson - May 7, 2008

All of the people who call that woman a corruput leader or a charlatin have no room to talk. All you people who speak badly about one of Gods prophets should be cursed.

Romans 12 - especially verse 14 - Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. - These words from the mouth of our saviour Himself.

Please read those chapters in full as not to take a verse out of context.

I realy believe that true Holy Spirit inspired teachers need to step forward in the world today - exactly like the apostles and christian leaders following them in the new testament did , and take these practises and so many more head on- FOR FREE.

32. sanctifyme - October 18, 2007

I could not say it better.

May God bless you all and guide you into His will for your life on this earth.
